Gas and electric furnaces and heat pumps, serviced or replaced before a Middle Tennessee winter.

  • Ducts and controls

Before you hire

Look up the licence

The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance has a public search for contractor licences.

Ask for proof of insurance

A current certificate of insurance shows that the job is covered. Ask for it before work starts.

Get the estimate in writing

A written estimate names the equipment, its size and what is included, which makes two offers easy to compare.

How the list is made

The directory turns an open dataset into a readable list. It does not rank businesses and it does not sell places in the list.

  1. Open map data

Listings come from the places data of the Overture Maps Foundation, an open dataset built from several contributors and published under open licenses.

  2. Heating and cooling only

A place is kept when it is filed as an HVAC service, or when its name plainly says heating, cooling or air conditioning. Supply houses and distributors are left out, and so are places marked as closed.

  3. One entry per business

When the data holds the same business twice, it is listed once. Towns with fewer than three businesses are grouped under their county, so that each page has something to read.

Questions and answers

Which businesses are in the directory?

Heating and air conditioning businesses with an address in the Nashville metropolitan area, as recorded in the open places data of the Overture Maps Foundation, minus duplicates and places marked as closed.

Does a listing mean the business is licensed?

No. The source is map data, not the state licence registry. Check a contractor licence with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance before you hire.

Why is there no phone number for each business?

The directory publishes a name, an address, a town and a county. It leaves phone numbers out on purpose.

Who answers the number shown on the site?

An independent HVAC provider from a referral network, not one of the businesses listed. The publisher may be paid when the call is connected.

How are businesses ordered?

Alphabetically inside each town. Nobody pays to appear or to move up the list.

My town has no page. Why?

Towns with fewer than three listed businesses are grouped on their county page.

A listing is wrong or should be removed. What do I do?

Write through the Contact page with the business name and town. Each request is handled by hand.
